We had only sixskaters, but Russ set the tone early with some great stickhandling
and scored first giving us a 1-0 lead. The Jaguars answered back on a powerplay
when a slapshot dipped into the lower corner of the net to even things up.
Scooby, our regular-season goalscoring leader with seven goals, gave us
our lead back when he settled a puck outside the front of the crease and
placed it high over the fallen goalie for his first tally
of the postseason. Shortly afterwards, Ralz cleanly won a faceoff and shuffled
the puck to Russ who scored his second of the game through a screen provided
by Wildman. We took that 3-1 lead into the first break.
After dominating the puck deep in our zone for the first 5:00 minutes of
the 2nd period, the Jags got one when they fired through a screen. The big
news in the 2nd period, though, was losing Glenn Farkas on a groin pull
at about the 10:20 mark (not only did we lose his great speed, but also
our only sub).
The Jags pressured throughout the remainder of the 2nd and through the 3rd,
but were unable to get by our tenacious group of exhausted players.
