How the &^%#@^*% do I follow up Brian's newsletter from last week? (shakes
head). I'm not sure, so I will just jot down a few thoughts about this past
weeks game ....
The Pirates settled in for a Memorial Day contest against the Dire Wolves
this past weekend. We had a short bench as three of our regulars could not
attend, due to the weekends festivities; this left us with four forwards
and three defenseman. The forwards consisted of Farkas, Russ, LeMatty, and
Goione, while the defensive chores were handled by Farrell, Kevin, and Scooby,
with Harris naturally manning the pipes.
The Pirates controlled the game from the start as Goione poked a loose puck
past the Wolves goalie shortly into the contest, and they never looked back.
There were some pretty goals scored, as Farkas completed the wraparound,
Russ converted two nice tic-tac-toe plays, and Scott LeMatty completed his
patented deke move past a stunned Wolves goalie. Goione would bookend the
scoring with a driving to the net goal after a perfect pass from
Farrell.
The real strength of the night was the Pirates passing as the team moved
the puck with ease, connecting on numerous open man passes. This was a game
of puck control, and the Pirates had the puck well in hand. As time ran
out the Pirates had a commanding 6-1 victory to start the season.
