SUNDAYS #5 vs. BLACKHAWKS:

(vol. 18S, no. 5; newsletter by k.r.)
How lucky are we that we get to play hockey instead of wasting time trying to cut down tree branches? It's alot less dangerous and a lot more fun. Except of course if we are playing the Blackhawks. They kicked our asses, but you have to admit they looked good with their new retro Hawks jerseys. Too bad they are basically black (because we need alternate jerseys). The game started without a keeper in the Blackhawks net for a large chunk of the 1st. By my count we only took two shots on net and could not score; but as always seems the case, once their goalie arrived we played much better. The 1st ended with us compiling a 3-1 deficit, with the only goal by Russ (assist to Scooby).

We played better in the middle frame but still trailed at the end of the 2nd period by three goals, 6-3. Both 2nd period goals were scored by Scott LeMatty — one on the powerplay (assist to Russ) and the second at even strength (assist to Wildman).

As the 3rd period opened the Pirates seemed to take the play to the Hawks. The gap was narrowed to one goal for a bit as we scored three times, before the Hawks tallied back-to-back scores. Even in the loss a quick glance of the scoring summary will show that a few Pirates were on their games. Russ lead the way with four points and a hattrick; Scott would add two goals of his own; and Wildman and Scooby kicked-in two points each. In closing I would just like to say heal fast Chris (for those Pirates out of the “loop,” #19 suffered 11 stitches at the nasty end of a chainsaw). Oh and last but least: #67 #67 #67. And when the hell are the freakin' bobbleheads getting here?
