Our journey through our first season in the A division has been
rough, and Sunday was no exception. We had five forwards and three defenseman.
The 1st period started out great. We were all over their passes in the neutral
zone, but we could not mount much of an attack off of the turnovers we caused.
The first 6:00 minutes we did not let them cross over our blueline, which
considering the speed/talent level of the other team was a major accomplishment.
They carried the puck more after that and we could not stop their rushes
into our zone. I now know what some Iraqi soldiers felt like during the
Gulf War. We tried hard, but we got squashed.
On the plus side we did play well in the 1st period, maybe with more legs
we would have had a different result. We were close to scoring a few times,
but Howell broke up our chances and rebounds. Russ fired a hard shot on
net and Gary Bleiberg hustled to the rebound, and put it in the net to break
the shutout.
