Although we controlled the puck for much of the game, the Blizzard controlled
the scoreboard, tallying a goal at the beginning of the first period to
keep us at the 1-0 disadvantage for most of the game. Their score came on
a loft-pass from Gary Bleiberg (who is joining the Sunday night Pirates),
that narrowly missed Russ' hand and found another Blizzard teammate in front
of our net for the putaway.
We had a couple of great offensive plays (including a breakaway by Brian
Newcomb in the 2nd that beat the goalie, but hit the post), but we couldn't
get on the board until Russ wove in deep during the 3rd and notched his
second goal of the season tying the game at the 10:00-minute mark.
Five minutes later Jim Crowley's shot on net was re-directed by Brian K.
in front for what would be the gamewinner. The Blizzard put the pressure
on during the last 3:00 minutes (including pulling their goalie), but we
held our ground for the big comeback victory.
