With a full-crew on a World Series night and a 3-game unbeaten streak (two
wins and a tie), things just seemed to be going a little too well for us
and last night was the reality check. The Rink Rats took advantage
of an early defensive-zone turnover for their first score and added another
with only 20 seconds left before the first break.
That 2-0 deficit widened to 3-0 in the first :30 seconds of the 2nd when
we helped their cause by scoring an own goal (they kill soccer
players in Colombia for doing this, by the way). By the second intermission,
we trailed 4-0.
The 3rd period was our best and we pressured consistently, but came up dry
on numerous goal-line scrambles. Finally with only 2:00 minutes left, Brian
Newcomb won a face-off cleanly to Russ who shattered the shutout our only
score.
THE
SILVER
SKULLS
1) RUSS
NICOLOSI
For not giving the Rats goalie the shutout.
2)
BRIAN NEWCOMB
For the assist.
3)
ROGER WEISS
For
sweeping away a bouncing puck on the goal-line in the 3rd that would've killed
my GAA even further.
