The opening of the new Sunday season had an auspicious beginning as a long
shot from the blueline caught me off-guard and gave the Rage an early 1-0
lead. Fortunately, we bounced right back on the next shift and a shot by
Jimmy Ferraro though traffic bounced off a couple of Rage players to tie
things up. The 1-1 score held for the remainder of the 1st.
We came out gunning in the 2nd and Scooby (doing his Gretzky imitation from
behind the Rage net), passed to Scott LeMatty at the point for a bullet
that gave us a 2-1 lead. We held that lead for the rest of the 2nd.
The first shift of the 3rd period saw Jimmy finding Roger for a one-two
punch that put us up 3-1. We held that 2 goal lead all the way to the 6:00-minute
mark when the Rage took advantage of a defensive turnover and scored off
a rebound from point blank. With only 2:40 left, the Rage kept the pressure
up and scored again to even things up. Taking a page from the "Mike
Kennan" handbook, we out on an extra-skater with :04 left and nearly
won it, but instead we had to settle for the 1-point night.
