(vol.
4S, no. 2; newsletter by h.s.)
Starting nearly 40 minutes late due to various Ironman tournaments
and Donkey Basketball Games, we were all anxious to get on and play. Although
there was some great end-to-end action, the only goal of the 1st period
was a Bad Boyz shot that ricocheted off two not one, but two
Pirate defensemen before finding the back of our net.
The Bad Boyz (led by some great goaltending by Dave Kurasz) seemed impenetrable
until the 2nd period, when Dave Matthews' powerplay shot from the point
ping-ponged in for our first goal of the night. Almost immediately after,
Roger fired from the opposite point and Jimmy got a piece of it as it came
towards the Boyz' crease for the redirection score.
We carried that 2-1 lead all the way into the 3rd period when the Boyz scored
twice (once at the tail end of a powerplay and once, believe it or not,
off another Pirate defenseman). We threatended with the extra skater in
the last minute, but couldn't put it in.
