(vol.
4S, no. 6; newsletter by h.s.)
Although it took us 6:00 minutes to get on the board, once we did the floodgates
were open. Both teams came out gunning (the Jags' Gucci was firing rockets
from the point), but it was Scott LeMatty's well-placed rebound (off a Farkas
shot) that gave us the 1-0 lead at the 9:00-minute mark. Wildman (on a Jimmy
Ferraro pass) did an acrobatic sort of like that famous Bobby Orr
photo move to give us a 2-0 edge, and then Glenn picked up the rebound
off a long Russ shot to close out the period's scoring, giving us a comfortable
3-0 lead at the end of the 1st.
Russ and Glenn did a deja vu on the next goal to open the 2nd
period, giving us the 4-0 lead and then Wildmans' laser pass to Jimmy Ferraro
for the one-timer gave us the 5-0 advantage. Not to be left out, Ralz scored
(unassisted) to put us up 6-0 and then Scooby snapped his dry spell and
closed-out the 2nd period scoring (assist to Farkas) making it 7-0 at the
break.
The only Pirate score of the 3rd was again the Glenn-Russ combo to complete
Farkas' hat-trick and his 5-point night. Of course, I didn't want to be
left out of the Newsletter so I had to give up a goal with :10 left in the
final period to spoil my shutout bid.
THE
SILVER
SKULLS
1) GLENN
FARKAS
For his hat-trick (making him the fifthPirate to accomplish that feat
Jimmy, Rob, Russ and Scott are the others).
2) ED SOUTHWORTH
For working the boards and making opportunities -- impressive, considering
he was under-the-weather and seemed to always have two Jags on his back! (and
for his goal, of course).
3)
JOHN CASSENS
For the GWG the prettiest goal of the season (and his last game before
he begins his West Virginia-China adventure).
