Russ got us off to a quick start on our first shift by scoring from the
blueline to beat John Arena at 13:30. Not too long after, with sustained
pressure, Glenn-man carried the puck into the corner and waited for Russ
to break across center for a one-timer and 2-0 lead.
We held that until late in the period when at the tail end of a powerplay
Downey shot a long one that glanced-off my glovehand and into the
net (aaugh).
That 2-1 score held all the way until the 3rd period, when the Rage again
beat me on an excruciatingly-long shot that skipped into the low corner
(maybe changing in the locker room was "bad luck" after all).
We took a late penalty at the 3:20 mark in the 3rd, but killed that off
and threatened twice with time running out; both breakaways were stopped
and the tie (our second one this season against the Rage) stood.
THE
SILVER
SKULLS
1) RUSS
NICOLOSI
For tallying both Pirate goals and finishing as the regular-season points
leader.
2) DAVE MATTHEWS
A solid outing on D and a good job of covering when Roger and
Russ carried up ice (and also for a great Roddy Dangerfield imitation at the
post-game parking lot gathering).for his goal, of course).
3)
GLENN FARKAS
For pin-pointing Russ with that great pass for the second goal of the night.
