We had only five Pirates in the lineup for Saturday's tiebreaker
game, which was to determine whether we would enter the playoffs as the
#1 or #2 seed. Although our guys never got a rest, everyone gave 110% and
if not for some great goaltending by Dave Kurasz we easily
could've stolen the #1 spot.
The Bad Boyz scored the only goal of the 1st and then added an insurance
goal early in the 2nd for the 2-0 lead. Soonafter, though, Scott LeMatty
from behind the net provided a great feed to Russ who blasted a shot high,
stickside to put us on the board, 2-1.
Not too long after though, a rush up-ice ended in a one-timer by the Boyz
to regain their 2-goal lead, which would hold for the second break. We stormed
back in the 3rd when Scooby skated by the entire Boyz's "D" and
stuffed the shot into the net to make it a 1-goal game again. We killed
a powerplay later in the period and turned the pressure up even more, but
the only other score was by the Boyz with about 4:00 minutes remaining.
(Probably the only good thing about having no substitutes was I didn't have
to worry about leaving the ice for the extra skater at the end.)
