Our Title defense for the new season began with a rematch of last season's
Finals vs. the Jags B. The Jags had a new goalie in net and a strong desire
to get revenge and take a few bodies down trying.
The action was end-to-end in the first, but no one could get a puck in.
Then — with just seconds left in the 1st — Chris (who joins our
Sunday team in Glenn Farkas' temporary absence for this season) pulled one
off the boards and got it to Wildman who fed Scott LeMatty for the goal
as the buzzer sounded.
During the 2nd and 3rd periods, Jimmy Ferraro put in a pair of goals (in
front of his own cheering section that he imported for the game) to widen
the lead 3-0. The real action, though, was on the boards as the physical
play began to escalate and penalties were flying. Our game stayed focused
and the "D" of Scott, Dave, Dan and Russ just kept them on the
other side of the blueline (especially late in the 3rd when they were trying
to press). Ralz, Scooby, Dan D. and Wildman were key against the offensive
boards and refused to be intimidated by the hitting, while Chris always
seemed to be in front of the net or digging pucks out from in back. All-in-all,
a great game #1!
