5W, no. 4; newsletter by h.s.)
The last time we met the Jags A we lost 9-0, so keeping that in mind, we
had a great night. We survived the first shift well, but then a barrage
of three unanswered goals in about a 4:00-minute span kinda
sobered us up a bit. We dug in our heels though, and ended the period on
a high note when Scott (yes, Scott Miller again) scored. We took that 3-1
score into the first break.
Special guest star Matt Nicolosi (yes, he is related to Russ in case you
didn't figure that out) then scored at the beginning of the 2nd on a feed
from another guest star, Dan Pomphrey (yes, Danny was back!) to close the
gap to just one goal, 3-2. We played tough but scoreless the next 5:00 minutes
until an unfortunate incident took place that we will not dwell on
suffice to say, that I am no Martin Brodeur when it comes to stickhandling.
The Jags A would add another goal off a defensive-zone faceoff to make it
5-2 and that would close out the period's scoring.
The only other score in the game was another by the Jags, and although the
score might not show it, we really hung with those guys for the whole game
(and improved as the game went on). Other notable moments: Roger's awesome
sliding blocked-shot save in the 2nd; Glen Chambers restraint on not retaliating
on a cheap shot (we got a powerplay on that hit); Russ bending his thumb
back to his wrist (ouch).
