Our second interdivisional game (this time against the Smashing Pumpkins)
went substantially better than expected (considering we were without Russ,
Big Jim and Nick). And except for a bad 3:00-minute span in the 1st
we played a really solid game against the fast, A-division team.
We held them scoreless for about the first 6:00 minutes and then they had
a 3-goal barrage (the first one was controversial as Chris the Ref didn't
give us a whistle on a frozen puck). But after that we played'em hard and
even closed the gap to 3-1 after Wildman knocked in the loose puck off a
Brian Newcomb shot on John Arena.
We pressured a few times late, but mostly it was about keeping the Pumpkins
away from our net. With :15 left in the 3rd, they got the final goal of
the night (aaaugh).
THE
SILVER
SKULLS
1) GLEN
CHAMBERS
Once again for playing his heart out on both sides of the blueline (and for
giving me his water!).
2)
JOHN CASSENS
A performance probably worthy of #1 star had he not held my waterbottle hostage
in his bag for the entire game.
3)
BRIAN NEWCOMB
For knowing the words and tune to the Rheingold commericial. Bri was good
enough to sing it for us in the locker room and then twice by encore
in the parking lot.
