Sporting our brand new Championship patches on our sleeve, we faced-off
against one of our toughest opponents of the season, the Smashing Pumpkins
(we lost 4-1 last season).
We held them scoreless for the first two shifts, then they got two quick
goals. For the remainder of the period we held our own until the final :40
when they skipped one in from just over center ice for the 3-0 lead at the
end of the 1st.
They added three more goals in the 2nd (most of them slam-dunk one-timers).
Then, just when things were looking pretty bleak, Chris put one in (assist
to Nick and Roger). Not too long after a Pumpkin tried to center a pass
in front which i deflected up ice to Farkas who passed to Brian Newcomb
for the goal (hey, i'm in the scoring race!). That 6-2 score closed out
the period.
The 3rd opened with a Russ goal (assist to Roger, who leads the pts race
out of the gate) to make it 6-3 — we had three unanswered goals. Unfortunately
the Pumpkins added two late goals with less than 2:45 remaining to regain
their killer lead and the game thankfully ended (next week the Howell Stars).
