With an extremely short bench (two subs), we faced-off against old rival
Jags B (who had an impressive 12-man team in attendance). There was some
great back-and-forth, but the only score of the 1st came halfway through
the period on a Jags faceoff win in our zone that resulted in a screen slapshot
from the point for the 1-0 lead.
That lead would hold up all the way until the 7:00 minute mark of the 2nd,
when Roger danced up ice for the tying goal, and his first score of this
new season. We went up 2-1 a few minutes later when Russ broke down ice,
shot wide and then retrieved his own rebound off the boards for a goal (what
a play!). With just over a minute left, we went on a major powerplay, but
unfortunately the Jags got hold of the puck and walked in on us for the
shorthanded goal. That closed out the period, 2-2.
We started the 3rd period still on the powerplay, but didn't get things
going till after the penalty expired and Wildman drove in a loose puck for
the 3-2 lead. We did a good job on holding that lead all the way into the
final 4:00 minutes when the Jags unrelenting offense yielded a goal to tie
things up, 3-3. Just when it looked like that's how it would all end, the
Jags drove in on us once more for another score and their first lea in two
periods. With about 1:20 remaining, I left the ice for the extra skater
and that's when Scooby made a lunging save at center to hold the puck in
the offensive zone, and then criss crossed towards the net for the shot
-- and the goal!

1) ED
SOUTHWORTH
For a great night all night, but his tying goal in the waning moments of the
game made him the game's hero.
2)
ROGER WEISS
For his 2-way player had a great night on both sides of the blueline.
3)
JOHN CASSENS
He
also had great play up and back, and his tally gives him the Pirate goal scoring
