(vol.
19W, no. 2; newsletter by b.n.)
It used to be that the Coastal Pirates was a team steeped in tradition. What is tradition? Tradition is not just doing the same things over and over — it is carrying a legacy that can be upheld through future generations. What would the world be like without these strong traditions? Can you imagine peanut butter without jelly? Mutt without Jeff? October without the NHL? (Hmm...) Truth be told, there are some traditions that we can do without, but all-in-all the Pirates have built some positive ones and, like the Pyramids of Egypt, could stand for thousands of years.
Or maybe not.
What is the enemy of tradition? Change. And as the second game of the season got underway, change was in the forecast. Well, in reality change has been in the wind for quite a while now; perhaps it all started with the rumblings of the Pirates securing a “second” jersey. What? Say it ain't so! What other jersey can there possibly be? Black should be the one and only color. Everything else is just sacrilege. And then there is the talk of adding Gucci to the lineup. What? Did I hear that right? Picking up Gucci (and don't get me wrong, I do not dislike Gucci) would be like the Red Sox trading Babe Ruth to the Yankees — and we all know what the Red Sox are going through. And don't get me started on the traditional post-Championship celebration; I can't speak for Sunday night of course, but after the last Wednesday Championship, the turnout was so light you would have thought the Pirates just lost to the Geriatrics in a scrimmage game. Oh well, at least we still have the “traditional t-shirts” to celebrate the Championship win . Ahhhhhhhhh ... Don't tell me even that tradition has gone out the window!
Oh well, since we are breaking traditions, here's the newsletter:

THE
SILVER
SKULLS
1) CRAIG SUDOL
For 2 more tallies (that's his per game average incidentally!).
2)
JIMMY FERRARO
For his 4-assist night. Yeah, you read correctly — assists.
3)
JOHN CASSENS
For great two-way play and for getting the GWG to boot. (SOC note: Wildman has paid off his fines. He brought a 12-pack of Tecate to Sunday's game. Hey isn't that Scott Miller's favorite?)
