The Coastal Pirates got their “holiday hattrick” of games off to a great start Sunday night as they bested the St. Pats 4-3. The public schools' Spring Break kept the crowds down and must have also affected the roster, as we skated short. However, the Pirates were inspired by the return of Glenn “The Raccoon” Farkas, who was sporting some new eye protection after suffering a puck to the face and getting a couple of black eyes last week; an eye patch would have been more fitting for Glenn, but technically he did get hit in the nose.
We wasted no time to jump on the competition. In the opening 3:30 minutes of the 1st period the Pirates had built up a 3-0 lead. First, Keith hit Russ off of the right boards to spring him into the zone; then, Russ and Chris set-up Glenn; and finally, Ralz would set-up Scott LeMatty. Too bad there was still 40:30 minutes remaining in the game. Soon enough the St. Pats settled down and by the break — just like the Palm leaves from Church services — it was all knotted-up. (It was Palm Sunday for those of you who forgot.)
Things stayed tied 3-3 for most of the final period. The Pirates were called upon to kill off two penalties and did that successfully. When the second one had expired, Russ completed a give-and-go to Scott LeMatty for the go-ahead tally with only 3:30 remaining on the clock. As he did all through the game, Harris played big and the 4-3 score stood. The Sunday Pirates now stand at 3-1 halfway through the regular season. Stay tuned for the next installment of the trilogy. Till next time ...
