The Coastal Pirates skated into action against the Jaguars and came out of it still winless on the season. The final score was 6-2 although it didn't seem that one-sided. Between the pipes was Harris, while manning the blueline in front of him were the tandems of Dave-Gucci and Keith-Chachi. Up front was Russ, Nick, Wildman, Craig, and the Miller Bros.
How should I describe this game? How about: “Another one that got away.” The only Silver Skulls we should give out for this one should go to the referees since they were the only ones wearing black & white who didn't give the puck away. Actually, this was really a tale of two games. Although the score was tied 0-0 after 16:00 minutes of play, the 1st period was dominated by the revamped Jags. We had no offense to speak of and the defense was porous. Once the Jags finally found the net, they scored three times within 4:00 minutes.
The Men In Black found their game in the final period, but were not able to get back into the game because of the play of the Jags' goalie. Gucci and Evan (on helpers from Russ and Wildman) were the only Pirates able to dent the twine, but another SHG on the once-again weak Pirate powerplay proved the backbreaker. Hopefully by next game we'll realize that we need to sting a solid 44:00 minutes of play together and we'll be able to get that elusive first win. Till next time ...
