WEDNESDAYS #10 vs. PHANTOMS:

(vol. 28W, no. 10; newsletter by brooks)
Finally a Wednesday game on a Wednesday — it seems like a miracle. How we ended-up with that many Monday night contest in the season, i'll never know ...

So here we are playing the Phantoms in a must-win situation. In case you don't pay attention to the standings, we were in fifth place and only the top four spots play for the “B”-division Playoffs (the next four form the “C”-division). By getting the win, we controlled our own fate and would capture the final spot in the middle division — a grouping of teams that were separated by only two points from first- to fourth-seeds.

Ok, now that we got the statisical analysis out-of-the-way, we had six forwards on the bench: Brooks, Wildman, The Miller Bros., Craig, and Russ (subbing for up Scooby or Mike, take your choice); Manning the blueline for our final regular-season game was the trio of #67-Gucci-Dave . In-between the pipes subbing for Harris was Corey Sullivan — our fourth goalie to make an appearance on Wednesdays.

The story here was Corey, whose stellar play resulted in the shutout. Offense was plentiful — including the natural hat by Scott Miller. Here's the tallies in order of lighting the lamp: S. Miller (assist Brooks), S. Miller (assist Wildman), S. Miller (unassisted), E. Miller (assist Russ), and Gucci (assist Wildman). We forechecked and backchecked mercilessly and kept the Phantoms to the outside the whole game.

Next up: The Playoffs. We start our run against the No.1-seeded Gerrys (who we handed their only loss of the season to). Still, it will be a tough road ... but if we play like tonight we will be fine.
