SUNDAYS #4 vs. JAGUARS:

(vol. 31S, no. 4; newsletter by h.s.)
The final score of this game wasn't a reflection of how close it was.

The Pirates had eight men on this night, missing Anthony and Ralz. Tony, who appeared to be A.W.O.L., was in fact stranded due to car problems (a time-stamped voicemail saved Anthony from any “fines”); Tim was exceptionally tardy, as he showed-up for our 6pm game at 7pm ... but he was there and did stay for the post-game “meeting” so the S.O.C. is considering waiving his payment. The big news, however, was Scott LeMatty's being cleared to play, as long as he (in the words of his doctor) “avoids getting punched in the face.”

In the 1st period, the Pirates scored first (Brooks assist Russ) and then went on an early powerplay; Somehow though, the Jags got a 2-on-0 breakaway on the ensuing face-off and #67 (playing in an enemy uniform) tied the game with a shorthanded goal that bounced-off every one of my pads. (Later, at the team meeting, he said he was thinking shot all the way — “There was no way I was passing to Nutley.”) The period ended knotted at 1-1.

As has been the custom lately, the Pirates took it up a notch in for the final 22:00-minutes. Although the game was briefly 2-2, the Men In Black went on a scorefest, putting the biscuit in the net six times in the period. Here's the highlights: Mike's continued his point-scoring streak (he's been on the scoresheet in every game of the season, including a goal this night); Gucci had a couple of helpers; Brooks completed his hattrick; LeMatty scored his first of the season on a great wraparound opportunity; and Dan DiPierro sunk the last one of the night.

All-in-all, a dominant effort ... at least for half the game.
