(vol.
35W, no. 8; newsletter by b.n.)
I had heard that the Buckshot were comprised of a bunch of former Monmouth College hockey players. (Yeah, I know it is Monmouth University, but assuming these guys are over 30 then it was still Monmouth College when they played there). Anyway, with that in mind ... I know of at least one Coastal Pirate that didn't start playing hockey until he was well out of college (Well, actually he went to Rutgers University! So take that Monmouth College).
As the game progressed, it did kind of look like those guys were a bunch of College players. When the score got to 5-1, there might have been some in the building that pretty much thought that the deal was done.
But before I get into that,
I would just like to thank Bob Currao for finally showing up — that's one less subject for the newsletter.
Anyway, other than a nice topshelf goal by Grinberg in the 1st period, it seemed like it was all Buckshot. When the score got to 5-1 in the final period, it looked like the Buckshot took their foot off the gas, as they started to pass the puck around a little bit more than they did earlier ... And then LeMatty picked-up a goal. Then the clock started to run down. Then Marty got a goal. Then Russ (from Kenny G). While all this was going on, the Buckshot didn't seem to change their game plan — it was almost like they were still up 5-1. After the Pirates pulled the goalie, it looked like it was over, but the Buckshot fired the puck just wide of the empty net and then (with about :13 seconds remaining), Kenny buried a pass from Russ to tie the game.
The Pirates were able to fend off all challenges in overtime and pull off the improbable tie.
The End.
And now a “bye week” and then I'll see everyone in the Playoffs.
(Except Currao of course).
