(vol.
37W, no. 10; newsletter by k.m.)
Let me start by saying that only Mark Messier can guarantee a win.
Harris e-mailed me to see if I could sub and of course being a hockey whore I agreed as well as boasted that if I played we would win. Well not only did that not happen but to make things worse I was responsible for the first goal. I should also mention that it was the biggest guy on the rink who managed to sneak by me and receive a perfect pass from the point to put the first point on the board for the Buckshot.
Enough about me — I don't want to pull a Brian on my first newsletter. As for the details of the game, I know Marty scored our only goal and it was on a great move. Overall we skated hard and had some good chances, but the Buckshot goalie was on his game and made some good stops on what would have been goals any other night. Hopefully this Summer season we can start off strong and, by the time Playoffs roll around, we'll get a better seed and bring home another Championship.
On a brighter note the post-game “meeting” was finally held in a place where you might not get hit by a car or attacked by rabid raccoons. Several of us hit Applebee's and enjoyed fine cuisine and tap beer. We might even get some wall space over there for Pirate memorabilia if we swing by a few nights during the season.
Final note: This newsletter was written out of necessity because Brian/Harris would have bashed me beyond belief if given the chance on the guarantee that was not to be.
