editor's note: #67 sums up the season ... and throws #88 under the bus.
I know that I was in trouble when I got to the rink the other day.
“Hey Brian, you are going to play offense with LeMatty and Farkas” was the
first thing anyone said to me. And then I thought to myself, “Man that is
odd, I thought Russ send out an email that said I was supposed to be playing
D.” So I asked, “Hey, Harris, didn't Russ send out an email saying that I was
supposed to play D”?
“Well, yeah, but Danny is out so we are moving you to offense” “Does Russ know this?” “He does now — he's reading the newsletter.”
Anyway the pairings started out as LeMatty-#67-Farkas (the trio that shared the Art Ross Trophy for the season) and Rud-Tim-Wildman with Joe Nigro, and the two Eds (Eddie G and Ed Southworth) rotating on defense.
Not so well, the Pirates gave up the first goal off the
opening faceoff. Later in the game the opponents would climb to a 2-0
lead. But Farkas and LeMatty would combine to put us back within one before
the end of the 1st period.
The final period didn't go much better as the opponents would eventually
climb ahead 4-1 after 12:00 more minutes of a stalemate.
I guess we should have all seen in coming: After the recent Wednesday
Championship Dave Matthews asked “What's our record in Championhship games
when we wear white?” The answer was pretty good (the consensus was based on
viewing previous championship photos on Wildman's phone). So when we
donned the classic black prior to this Championship game ...
