editor's note: And now another special guest newsletter from substitute netminder Bill Barnett!
The stunt-goalie’s perspective: Once again, I was fortunate to get the call to fill in for the Pirates and experience a competitive and fun game. It was a tight game the whole way through. In the first half, the only puck to cross my goal line was sent in by a former teammate of mine. I was feeling good with a handful confidence building saves, but after stretching all out to the left and kicking out his initial shot, John from the Bruins followed the puck all the way across the slot and quickly popped it back under my right side as I was attempting to reset (I’m gonna say he had good scouting intel from playing a few seasons with me a year or so ago). Fortunately, some good play and a few lucky posts maintained the one goal as my only mistake to show up on the scoreboard.
As for the rest of the Pirates, they worked hard to bail me out on a few of my rebounds and put solid pressure on the bruins throughout the game. Ed’s goal gave us a good chance, but their goalie came up big a few times, especially in OT. This time, I got to enjoy a total of 47 minutes of exciting hockey. Thanks again, Pirates. I’ll stay ready for the next call.
