SUNDAYS #12 vs. RINK RATS:

(vol. 22S, no. 12; newsletter by k.r.)
What can I say, the Coastal Pirates playoff ship has set sail. For the second time in two weeks a Pirates team has been eliminated from the playoffs in the first round. Having only seven skaters certainly did not make it any easier. Just when you thought it couldn't get worse — worse even than the 3-0 hole the Pirates found themselves in late in the 1st period — that's when it got worse; that's when Scott LeMatty pulled out his back and called it a game. And then there were six.

Mike, Keith and Gucci (who was allowed an exemption to play with the Sunday team due to the shortened Pirate bench) were playing defense and also rotating up front. The final was 5-3 with the Pirates' goals coming from Dan (assist to Gucci), Brian (assist to Gucci) and Gucci (assist to #67 and Keith). Dan's goal late in the 1st would give the Pirates a glimmer of hope at the break. But the 0-9-0 Rink Rats would regain their three-goal lead early in the final period before the Pirates scored back-to-back goals to pull within one with 4:00 minutes remaining. Unfortunately, Cinderella was also absent from the Pirate bench this night, and when the final buzzer sounded any hope of a repeat Championship was gone.
