WEDNESDAYS #6 vs. BRUINS:

(vol. 36W, no. 6; newsletter by b.n.)
I can't remember when I ever saw a rollerhockey game end 1-0. Well, other than the one I saw the other day of course. It doesn't happen that often. And when was the last time you saw the Bruins held scoreless? Usually their big guns are good for at least four or five goals a game, but other than a goal that wasn't a goal, the Pirates pulled-off the nearly unheard of against Burke, Chisholm, Andras and the rest of the crew.

The Pirates played a very smart game (apparently) not letting the Bruins stretch the field and Harris came up big on all the shots that were fired on net (and we got lucky on a few that clanged off the crossbar). The only goal of the game came on a puck that #67 picked up behind the net and banked-off the boards to LeMatty at the red line who fed Wildman for the blast that found its way through the goalie in the 1st period. It looked like the Bruins answered back when Harris covered a shot from the point, but the puck emerged from his pads to a wide-open Mark Andras who flipped it easily into the open net. “But wait!” you say. “You said the Bruins were held scoreless?” Yes, you are quite correct, you have not lost your mind (well as long as you are not Wildman). For the first time in living memory, the Pirates actually had a call go their way (and with the officiating crew of Scott and Vic no less)! Apparently Vic lost sight of the puck and blew the play dead before Andras put it in the net. And, more surprisingly, Scott didn't skate down from the other end of the rink and overrule the call like he normally does. Who would have thought that that was the game right there? But it was. The Pirates sustained all the pressure, including the final minute or so as the Bruins pulled their goalie for the extra skater.

And that, as they say, is the story of the 1-0 rollerhockey game.
