SUNDAYS #10 vs. JAGUARS:

(vol. 39S, no. 10; newsletter by r.n.)
In a feisty renewal of the Pirates-Jags rivalry the venerable Black-and-White prevailed with a stylish 7-1 win. The Title follows a similar result from the Wednesday Pirates a mere 3 weeks prior.

In true GoodSports fashion, the game started with a dispute over the eligibilty of Ed Gesior. Ed had played in the Playoffs the prior week for the Cannibals and thus was ruled ineligible so he was forced to watch from the sidelines in his civies. The departure left Kev, Russ and John on “D” and lines of John-Tony-Jay and Scott-Tim-Glenn with 88 in the net.

The PIrates quickly shook off the pre-game dispute and established a relentless forecheck resulting in countless opportunities throughout the night. Glenn tallied first off a scrum in front and Russ followed quickly on a wrister off a blind backhand feed from Tony. From that point we grounded it out, highlighted by the pesky Glenn who brought his skating legs on this Sunday.

A highlight was a pretty powerplay set up in the final period as each of the Pirates touched the puck a minimum of twice times before the tally. As his tradition, Harris was stellar between the pipes for the big game. The winning tradition continues to grow.

ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS

The Montreal Canadiens was hockey's winningnest franchise with 24 Cups — until last Sunday that is, when the Pirates picked-up number 25. After tying the Habs record with a victory in the Fall Wednesday League, the Sunday Pirates surpassed Montreal's record when they claimed the Crown, ending a one-year drought for the Sunday crew in the process. Both franchises are pictured above winning their first and latest Titles.
