WEDNESDAYS #10 vs. BOTTOM FEEDERS:

(vol. 41W, no. 9; newsletter by h.s.)
During the regular season the Feeders had 10 more goals than the Pirates (35 to 25) and they finished the Division as the No.1 seed. Although we lost to them during our initial meeting, the narrow 2-1 defeat made it seem like we could rally in this Championship game and achieve the upset. It wasn't to be.

Within the first 2:00-minutes the Feeders had scored twice — once off a defensive-zone face-off and then again just a minute later. We settled down after that though and had some solid offensive chances but couldn't get it into the net. Then, with just :40 seconds remaining in the 1st period, the puck came deep to me: I saw two Pirates up ice and thought I heard Kevin say “Shoot the puck up ice!” (actually he said “Hold it!”); in any event, I shot the puck to a Feeder who shot it back off me and into our net for the 3-0 lead at the break.

The final 22:00-minutes was a defensive stand-off, with the only goal being the emptynetter by the Feeders with seconds remaining.

As usual a loss in the Championship means a great post-game “meeting.” Both Dave and Wildman brought ample supplies of suds. Add to that some stogies and a beautiful night and maybe the evening wasn't a such complete loss actually.
