Back before all the glory, the Coastal Pirates (originally dubbed the “Coastal Raiders”) were just another expansion team looking for a “W.” It was after a particularly bad beating when some Pirates were bemoaning the opposition's lucky breaks, when then-Captain Mike Wickham told his troops “You make your own luck.” The inspiring line became the rallying cry of the young team and — in just a few weeks — they had these great shirts made!
